Awesome Adelaide: Yelp + Adelaide Fringe = Backstage antics

yelpfringe

Adelaide’s gearing up for festival season and the Adelaide Fringe is just around the corner. A little birdy has told me that there’s something special in store for those of you who like to check into places, take photos of food and write reviews. Yes, I know who you are.

Ok, I’ll be honest, I don’t get out much and the last Fringe event I went to was Peter Coombe… that’s right. I know what’s cool. But I know that many of you love the Adelaide Fringe and get out to as many shows as you can. I also know how much Adelaide loves their social media, and letting people know what’s hot (and what’s not) in this fair city of ours.

If you haven’t already checked out Yelp, you may want to – even just for the perks. Yelp is a mix of review, location check-in, discovery social platform that already has a decent amount of activity in Adelaide and of course, there are badges and achievements all rolled into it. It’s pretty big in the US and they’ve been expanding into Australia more recently.

I have to admit though, as an app that sits on my phone, I don’t use it as much as I’d like, but I do like a lot of what I see happening there.

One thing I really dig about Yelp is that they’re investing into their community, especially at local levels. It’s really great when social networks really support their own community.

For the past six months, Yelp Adelaide Community Manager, Chloe has been working hard promoting local businesses, putting on VIP events for Adelaide Yelpers and popping up in places like Fork on the Road (if you love food trucks, check it out).

She’s pretty rad and we’ve had some good chats about communities in Adelaide.

Get your Fringe on

This year, Yelp is working with the Adelaide Fringe Festival to offer Yelpers some special access-passes to a number of events.

The aim is to encourage people to head along to events they may not know about. On top of that you’ll have be able to get special Yelp backstage passes, discount tickets and happy hour drink specials that no one else gets access to.

Anyone with a free Yelp account can get along to any of these events and be treated to some special “Yelp treatment”

Via Yelp

Here’s a list of events they’re putting on:

Here’s what you do:

Now, as to be expected, they can’t pack everyone in, so spaces are limited.

Go on, get on it.

If you’re on Yelp, feel free to look me up!
